Helena Dress

[44 items are in stock]

Helena is from my favourite Shakespearean play – A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Poor Helena is suffering from unrequited love, but dares to break the rules and chase after true love, her constancy seen as a real virtue. As we all know from this story “the course of true love ne’er did run smooth” but to quote another of the Bard’s plays “All’s well that ends well”.

Helena is a relaxed easy to wear dress. The front curved yoke anchors the pintuck detail at the centre front, but this could easily be changed to pleats or gathers. The back yoke also lends itself to adaptations with the  gathers changed to pleats as well.

The elbow length sleeves in view 1 can be extended into the 3/4 length sleeves in view 2. And the simple button and placket hold the turned up sleeves in place.

Side pockets are a must and keep the lines of the dress clean and simple.

Suitable Fabrics

Lightweight cotton, poplins, soft linen, double gauze, viscose mix, crepe de chine, satin crepe.

starstarstarstarstarA sew-in-a-day tunic! Love it! 15th Apr 2016
An easy to follow pattern with quick results. I used linen and then made another in needlecord. Am thrilled!

This is such a great design and is very versatile. The pattern is very easy to follow, even the seemingly tricky yoke turned out well and was much easier than it looked. I have made one ... so far... but will make more. Extremely comfortable to wear but also very stylish. Check your measurements as this is quite generously sized.

Love this pattern. Never done pintucks or a neck like this. Very easy to follow made kind sleeved one. Will make shirt sleeve next time. Xx

This is a great pattern and apart from the turning of the yoke which I found impossible to manoeuvre with linen, it is easy to follow. However, I am a definite size 16 but on looking at the actual measurements decided to make a 14. Even the 14 swamps me and completely hides any figure shaping.

Perfect as a dress with tights or a tunic with leggings. Easy to follow instructions - when I misread how to do the yoke which was entirely my own fault I popped in the shop and was pointed in the right direction by the lovely Claire. Fab pattern, fab fabric, fab service.

This pattern is easy to follow and perfect for a loose easy linen dress with a few lovely details. It can be styled in many ways.
